The birds belong to the family Trigonidae, and the genus is Trogon v. viridis. The male is on pictures 1, 3 & 8, while the female is on picture 5. Their habitat is the brazilian Atlantic Forest. The popular name is "Saracuá-grande-de-barriga-amarela" (Big yellow belly Saracuá). They usually gather in groups. This one had about 10 birds.
Right now I am reading the book "River Of Doubt," about Roosevelt's trip in South America. Fascinating stuff; not just his story, but the descriptions of that place. Someday I should visit.
